Is stretching really worth while?

Yes, it is part of the equation for total physical fitness. According to leading authorities, many injuries occur due to limited flexibility. A person’s flexibility is determined by several factors:

  1. The geometry of the joint
  2. Muscle elasticity
  3. Subcutaneous fat over the muscle
  4. Strength of the muscle

Proper stretching should be practiced daily, especially if an individual is an athlete or is in a high stress situation. Proper stretching can reduce the stress and enhance the quality of sleep as well as reduce the potential for injury.
